Spamdexing

search engine marketing(SEO,PPC) involves searching of websites for the keywords in order to determine their relevancy and index them. Spamdexing means trying and testing out websites for inappropriate or irrelevant links and then on the basis of results eliminating the options.

It is in a way reverse searching process but the main point is that the search is undertaken to spam the search indices of the listings of the search engines. The content presented by the spamindexed links do not present the users with relevant or useful content. The sites are mainly for the purpose of advertising or attracting traffic. Many search engine service providers have found ways to prevent or ban spamindexed sites to feature in their listings and one of these methods include examining the meta tags and keywords of the sites and deciding if they are genuine and relevant or not.

In a nut shell, it can be described as a case when the web pages contain a lot of extra terms that are not relevant but still are there for the purpose of being indexed by the search engines in various categories, thus increasing the visibility. Spamdexing could be done through content spamming or link spamming. Content spamming includes methods such as keyword stuffing, hidden or invisible irrelevant text, stuffing of meta tag, web scraping, spinning of the articles etc.

These all content spamming methods aim at influencing or designing the content in a way that web pages are included in the search engine indices but search engines are smarter.

Link spamming includes infusing the links of sites that are not related to the keyword search or content of the web page. Link spamming occurs using such techniques as Link farms, Hidden Links, Spam blogs, Page hijacking, Cookie stuffing etc.
